Trip Overview

Embarking on the ascent of Mera Peak, the tallest trekking peak in Nepal, is not just a climb; it’s a fusion experience, blending trekking with peak climbing. This majestic peak, preferred by both hardcore mountaineers and those with moderate and novice climbing prowess, stands tall at 6,476 meters (21,247 ft) in the Hinku Valley of the Sagarmatha region. The journey begins in Lukla, where the anticipation of scaling Mera Peak comes to life. The route takes you through the challenging Zatar La Pass (4,610m/15,124ft) towards the base camp nestled at an altitude of 4,800m (15,700ft). Along this path, you traverse culturally rich Sherpa villages, adding a cultural dimension to the physical challenges that lie ahead. Proper acclimatization becomes paramount, given the altitude to be conquered during the climb. While the ascent of Mera Peak may not present the most extreme challenges compared to some of its Himalayan counterparts, it promises an adventure that won’t leave you disappointed. The altitude and ascent mirror the challenges faced by professional peak climbers tackling more demanding peaks. The reward, however, is the breathtaking view awaiting at the summit.Upon reaching the pinnacle, you are greeted by an exquisite panorama of majestic peaks – Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, and Baruntse – a sight worth every hardship endured. The base camp at 5,300m on the Hongu sector and the high camp at 5,800m on a rocky projection serve as crucial waypoints in this exhilarating journey.Notably, prior peak climbing experience is not a mandatory prerequisite for attempting Mera Peak. However, as you ascend to 6,461m, challenges abound, with altitude sickness becoming a potential concern. Even seemingly minor ascents may feel like an eternity, underscoring the standard challenges of peak climbing. The journey, however, becomes a learning experience, where acquiring necessary skills becomes an integral part of the adventure. In the realm of Mera Peak, each step is a conquest, and every challenge is a stepping stone towards unparalleled views and a sense of accomplishment. So, if you seek an extraordinary blend of trekking and peak climbing, where the rewards match the hardships, join us on the ascent of Mera Peak – a journey that transcends the boundaries of ordinary climbing.

Full Itinerary

On your arrival, you’ll be greeted by our Airport Representative. They’ll transfer you to your accommodation and brief you about the journey ahead.

We'll proceed on a quick tour of the most important UNESCO-listed world heritage sites in Kathmandu after breakfast. You also have an option to do rock climbing in the afternoon. Following a briefing, you can begin making preparations for the trek.

Transfer to the domestic airport in the morning. You take a quick flight to the airport in Lukla and then climb toward Chutenga. Today’s trek will be short, i.e. around 3-4 hours. Spend the night in a local teahouse.

Following early breakfast, we head towards high altitude village named Thuli Kharka. Thuli Kharka provides you with exceptional mountain views with delicious local foods as a bonus. Spend the night at Thuli Kharka.

Today we decend towards slightly lower altitude to the village named Mausam Kharka. Like Thuli Kharka, Mausam Kharka is also known for its welcoming people and their unique culture. Spend the night in a local lodge.

We head towards Tagnag. Tagnag is a beautiful village popular for its green forests and mountain sceneries. As we continuously gain higher altitude you might get to feel the traces of snow and extreme cold from here on out.

As a standard procedure, we’ll be taking a rest day and acclimatize our body with the altitude. Go for a quick trek to one of the nearby sites to take in the mountain scenery. Take a stroll around the streets of Tagnag in the evening. Spend the night in Tagnag.

We finally make it to 5000 meters. Khare is a small Sherpa Settlement in a very high altitude. The warm and welcoming people will make you feel at home, as we eat local foods they prepared for us.

As we have gained more altitude than 5000 meters, we’ll be taking a rest day again today and acclimatize our body with the altitude. Go for a quick trek to one of the nearby sites to take in the mountain scenery. Spend the night in Khare.

It’s time to head towards the high camp. The trek gets tougher as we gain altitude, so we take it slow and steady. If the weather is clear the mountainous views will get even more heavenly. Spend the night at a tent in High Camp.

Finally, after our long journey we reach the summit of infamous Mera Peak. Situated at 6,476m from the sea level, Mera Peak provides mesmerizing views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Kanchanjunga, and Lhotse with other mighty mountains. We head back to the base camp after enjoying the views.

We leave this day free as a contingency for unforeseen cicumstances. We’ll summit a day early if weather conditions and everything goes per our plan.

We head down to Gothey village. This village has its own unique appearance, which lets us experience the authenticity of remote Nepalese regions. We spend the night at Gothey.

Following early breakfast, we head back towards high altitude village named Thuli Kharka. Thuli Kharka provides you with exceptional mountain views with delicious local foods as a bonus. Spend the night at Thuli Kharka.

Finally, after 13 days of hike we’ll take a short flight back to Kathmandu via Lukla airport. You’ll be transferred to your accommodation via a private vehicle.
